The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is currently under the leadership of President Andrew Kamanga, who is dedicated to bringing about transformation within Zambian football. Kamanga, who is seeking re-election, has highlighted key reforms, decentralisation efforts, and strategic successes as the pillars of his leadership.

In a recent interview on the Kenny T One on One Podcast, Kamanga spoke about his tenure, which has been focused on building systems and implementing future-focused governance. He emphasized the importance of providing vision and strategic oversight, while allowing the secretariat to handle day-to-day operations.

One of the significant changes implemented under Kamanga’s leadership was constitutional reform, which aimed to revamp the electoral structure and introduce provincial football governance. This decentralisation effort has empowered provincial structures to manage their own affairs, making FAZ truly national in nature.

On the field, Kamanga has prioritized grassroots football development, investing in clubs and providing support to Super League teams. Despite initial struggles with the senior national team, Chipolopolo has made a comeback, with notable achievements such as winning the U20 Africa Cup in 2017 and the women’s team qualifying for the Women’s World Cup in 2023.

Looking ahead, Kamanga sees his first term (2016–2021) as a foundation-building phase and his second term (2021–2025) as the time to take FAZ to new heights. He is calling on FAZ councillors to support his vision for a financially independent and tournament-winning FAZ.

Addressing misconceptions about his role, Kamanga clarified that the FAZ presidency is not a full-time job, as day-to-day operations are handled by the secretariat. He emphasized the strategic nature of his role, likening it to a board chair in a company.

In addition to his work in football governance, Kamanga is also working on a book that will explore the intersection of football and business. This project reflects his passion for building enduring football systems that go beyond individual personalities.

As Kamanga prepares for re-election at the FAZ AGM in May 2025, his focus remains on driving transformation and leading Zambian football to new heights. His commitment to reform, decentralisation, and strategic development will continue to shape the future of football in Zambia.
