Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has recently announced that the government is planning to have a meeting with transport operators to discuss the possibility of reducing lorry fares. This decision comes after the recent drop in fuel prices, which has created an opportunity to ease the burden on travelers and potentially reduce inflation in the country.

Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum held at Mpraeso on Saturday, April 19, Nyarko emphasized the importance of lowering transport fares to not only benefit the public but also contribute to the overall economic stability. He expressed optimism about the government’s efforts to bring down inflation and highlighted the potential impact of reduced transport fares on the nation.

Nyarko mentioned that fuel prices are on the decline, and the government intends to engage with transport operators in the coming weeks to encourage them to lower fares accordingly. This collaborative effort is seen as a strategic move to support the ongoing efforts to control inflation and ultimately benefit the entire nation.

The Deputy Minister also commended the Kwahu Business Forum for its role in bringing together individuals from various sectors to contribute to national development. He specifically acknowledged the presence of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin at the event as a symbol of unity and the government’s commitment to collaboration with all stakeholders.

By fostering partnerships with transport unions and businesses, the government aims to maintain economic stability and enhance the standard of living for Ghanaians. Despite concerns raised about the reluctance of transport operators to adjust fares in response to fuel price reductions, the government remains optimistic about achieving a mutually beneficial outcome through dialogue and cooperation.

In conclusion, the government’s initiative to engage with transport operators and address the issue of lorry fares in light of declining fuel prices reflects a proactive approach to economic management and public welfare. By prioritizing collaboration and inclusivity, the government seeks to create a conducive environment for sustainable growth and prosperity for all citizens.
