The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has made a heartfelt plea to the youth of Bawku to embrace peace in the wake of recent violence that erupted in the township. The clashes between the youth and the police resulted in one fatality and two individuals sustaining injuries, with the commander’s house being set ablaze.

During his visit to Bawku on Friday, April 11, IGP Yohuno emphasized the importance of restoring calm in the conflict-stricken area. He commended the dedication and resilience of the people of Bawku and assured them that priority would be given to the youth of the region in police recruitment. A special recruitment team will be deployed to Bawku to provide opportunities specifically for its youth.

IGP Yohuno expressed his eagerness to work closely with the community and urged residents to bring forth any grievances or mistakes made by the police. He promised swift corrective actions to build trust and enhance collaboration between the police and the community.

In his own words, IGP Yohuno stated, “When it comes to recruitment, we will give the people of Bawku priority. We will give the youth of Bawku priority, and so, for that matter, a special team will come here to do special recruitment for the youth of Bawku.”

The call for peace in the area is crucial, and the government must intensify security measures to prevent further outbreaks of violence in Bawku. The visit of the IGP to engage with traditional leaders and address the recent incident signifies a peaceful resolution between the Ghana Police personnel and the youth of the area.
