Larry Banks (Chicago Police Department; Yelp)

Repeat Offender Receives Three More Years in Prison for Burglary

CHICAGO — A notorious criminal with a history of multiple convictions has been sentenced to three more years in prison for yet another burglary in Uptown. Larry Banks, a 16-time convicted felon, was recently convicted of stealing $100 during a burglary at Dong Ky restaurant and bakery on December 2, 2023.

Banks, who has a pattern of receiving lenient sentences for his crimes, pleaded guilty to the recent burglary after leaving behind a briefcase containing personal records at the crime scene. This incident occurred while he was on parole for previous offenses.

His criminal record includes a 14-year sentence for a previous Uptown restaurant burglary in 2011. Despite his lengthy sentence, Banks was released in 2018 and soon found himself back in trouble, facing charges for another restaurant burglary in just seven months. Prosecutors eventually dropped the case in 2022.

Following this, Banks was caught on video committing three more burglaries, leading to a two-year sentence for criminal damage to property. However, he served no prison time due to credits. His latest conviction adds to a long list of criminal offenses dating back to the early 1990s.

Aside from the recent burglary, Banks also pleaded guilty to an unrelated robbery case, resulting in a one-year concurrent sentence. With the state’s good behavior discount and time served in jail, Banks is expected to be released in approximately six months.

Despite his repeated run-ins with the law, Banks continues to cycle in and out of prison, raising questions about the effectiveness of the justice system in dealing with habitual offenders like him.
