Empowering Black-Owned Safari Companies in Africa

Despite the safari industry’s massive success, Black-owned businesses are still a rarity, making up only 15% of safari companies. However, trailblazers like Vimbai Masiyiwa, founder of Batoka Africa, and Beks Ndlovu of African Bush Camps are working to change that narrative. These entrepreneurs are dedicated to empowering local communities and promoting wildlife conservation in Africa.

One of the key focuses of these Black-owned safari companies is to provide employment opportunities and invest in African talent. This not only ensures that tourism benefits local people, but also fosters deeper cultural engagement between tourists and the communities they visit. By reshaping the traditional safari model, which has been dominated by outsiders for so long, these companies are highlighting the importance of African-led conservation and travel experiences.

Through their efforts, they are not only creating sustainable businesses but also showcasing the rich diversity and beauty of Africa to the world. By supporting these Black-owned safari companies, tourists can contribute to the growth and prosperity of local communities while enjoying truly authentic and immersive safari experiences.
