West Africa Think Tank (WATHI) is at the forefront of advocating for women’s rights and gender equality in the region. In a column published on International Women’s Rights Day, Gilles Yabi, the founder and executive director of WATHI, emphasizes the importance of continuing the fight for equal opportunities and rights for girls and women. Yabi warns that progress made in this area is not irreversible and that there is still much work to be done to combat violence against women, ensure equal access to education, and promote women’s participation in decision-making processes.

Despite some progress made in reducing discrimination and gender inequalities in West African countries over the past thirty years, the battle for gender equality is far from over. WATHI is committed to maintaining mobilization and working with both men and women who support the cause of women’s rights. Education, culture, research, and public debate are key components of WATHI’s mission to address gender inequality and empower women in the region.

To further promote awareness and discussion on women’s rights issues, WATHI has conducted numerous interviews, roundtables, and published reference documents on various aspects of gender inequality. These resources provide valuable insights and information on the challenges faced by women in West Africa and beyond.

In addition to their ongoing advocacy work, WATHI has also highlighted the importance of women’s participation in political, economic, and social life through citizen debates and special publications. Interviews with prominent figures such as Soyata Maiga, Ndioro Ndiaye, and Tamaro Touré shed light on the progress, challenges, and threats to human rights protection in Africa.

STEM education and gender equality, as well as the stories of inspiring women like Dior Fall Sow and Isis Noor Yalagi, are also featured in WATHI’s resources. By showcasing the achievements and struggles of women in various fields, WATHI aims to inspire and empower future generations of women in West Africa.

For more information on WATHI’s work and to access their resources on women’s rights and gender equality, visit their website at www.WATHI.org. Join the conversation and be part of the movement towards a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
