MI Cape Town emerged as champions of the SA20 competition in 2025 after a dominant performance in the final against Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Wanderers. The team, which finished at the top of the table after 10 league matches, put up a stellar display with both bat and ball to secure a convincing 76-run victory over the two-time previous winners.
Led by the likes of Rashid Khan, who not only excelled with the ball by taking 1/19 in four overs but also showcased his brilliance in the field with three exceptional catches, MI Cape Town proved to be a cut above the rest. The team’s experienced bowling unit, including George Linde (2/20), Trent Boult (2/9), and Kagiso Rabada (4/25), restricted Sunrisers to a mere 105 runs in 18.4 overs while defending their total of 181.
Sunrisers’ batting lineup faltered once again in the final, with only Tony de Zorzi (26) and Tom Abell (30) showing some resistance. However, they failed to form any substantial partnerships and succumbed to the pressure imposed by MICT’s bowlers.
MI Cape Town’s batting effort saw contributions from various players throughout the innings. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the team managed to reach a competitive total thanks to crucial knocks from Connor Esterhuizen (39 off 26), George Linde (20 off 14), Dewald Brevis (38 off 18), and Delano Potgieter (13 not out off 12).
In response, the Sunrisers bowlers, led by Richard Gleeson (2/22), Marco Jansen (2/39), and Liam Dawson (2/40), tried to contain the opposition but were unable to prevent MI Cape Town from clinching the title.
Overall, MI Cape Town’s all-round performance in the final showcased their dominance in the competition and solidified their status as deserving champions of SA20 2025.
