Armed Robbery Near United Center Ends in Tragedy
A tragic incident unfolded near the United Center last year, resulting in the death of a victim during an armed robbery. The latest developments in the case reveal shocking details about the events that transpired that fateful day, as well as the subsequent arrest of 19-year-old Deron Wolfe.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred when Elgin High School senior Jess Kendall, along with a group of friends, were targeted by four masked robbers armed with guns. The robbers surrounded the group, with one taking a purse, another stealing a vape pen and lip gloss from a 17-year-old girl, and others taking cash, keys, and other belongings from the victims.
As the situation escalated, Kendall bravely attempted to diffuse the situation by advising his friends to leave. However, he was met with violence as one of the robbers pistol-whipped him, causing him to fall to the ground. In a moment of bravery, Kendall managed to grab the gunman’s weapon, leading to a struggle that resulted in gunshots being fired.
During the chaos, the other victims sought refuge in a nearby home, while Kendall was left on the sidewalk, injured but determined. The aftermath of the incident revealed multiple shell casings and a trail of violence that shook the neighborhood.
Soon after the robbery, authorities discovered Wolfe lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Shockingly, they found a pink vape pen belonging to one of the robbery victims in his possession, linking him directly to the crime scene. Subsequent DNA testing provided strong evidence of his involvement in the robbery.
Further investigation revealed that a juvenile who was dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound was also connected to the incident. The intricate web of relationships and connections between the suspects painted a complex picture of the events that unfolded that night.
Following Wolfe’s arrest, he provided conflicting statements to authorities, further complicating the case. However, a detention petition was granted, and Wolfe now faces charges of murder during the commission of a forcible felony and armed robbery.
The tragic events that transpired near the United Center serve as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in the city streets. As the case unfolds, justice must be served for the victims and their families who were impacted by this senseless act of violence.
