Serial Package Thief Arrested in West Town
CHICAGO — Authorities have apprehended a repeat offender who has been stealing packages from a business and condo building near his West Town residence, making off with goods valued at $10,000 in one instance. The targeted company prides itself on offering a solution to prevent package theft by serving as an intermediary between delivery services and recipients.
Chicago police investigators identified the culprit as 57-year-old Andrew Clark, located in the 300 block of North Hoyne, based on surveillance footage and eyewitness identifications.
According to a CPD report, Clark forcibly entered a condo building in the 500 block of North Hoyne on March 18, breaking the glass door to access the mailroom and pilfer a package.
Additionally, Clark stands accused of burglarizing a business situated in the 2100 block of West Hubbard on two separate occasions, once on February 11 and again on March 5.
During the initial break-in, he allegedly gained entry to a storage unit and made off with multiple Amazon packages, as outlined in the police report.
On March 5, Clark reportedly absconded with numerous Amazon packages and a cart, with the stolen items estimated to be worth $10,000, according to a criminal complaint.
The victimized company operates a website that promises to mitigate the risk of package theft from residences by facilitating secure deliveries between couriers and recipients.
Clark now faces three counts of burglary. Following his arrest, Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. released him under electronic monitoring.
Public records indicate Clark’s criminal history includes two burglary convictions in 2015 and one in 2019. He served a 20-year sentence for armed robbery in 2003 and received a seven-year term for armed robbery in 1997. In 1991, he was placed on probation for charges of robbery and aggravated battery.
