Chicago Man with Violent Past Arrested for Murder in Park Manor Restaurant
When federal prosecutors charged Marcus Womack with illegal possession of a firearm in 2019, they revealed disturbing details about his criminal history and affiliation with the Gangster Disciple gang. Womack, who received a 46-month federal prison sentence for the gun possession charge, made headlines again over the weekend for a senseless act of violence in a Park Manor restaurant.
Authorities reported that 33-year-old Womack fatally shot 41-year-old Ulysses Green inside Maxwell Street Polish on South State Street. The incident occurred following an argument between Green and another man outside the restaurant, leading to Womack chasing Green into the establishment and shooting him twice in the back at close range.
Police quickly apprehended Womack after obtaining video footage from a nearby gas station, which captured the suspect fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The license plate number led authorities to Womack, who was found near the suspected getaway car in the 6500 block of South Evans.
During a court appearance, prosecutors requested Womack’s detention, citing his violent behavior and the overwhelming evidence linking him to the murder. Womack’s extensive criminal record includes convictions for carjacking, possession of stolen vehicles, and previous firearm offenses.
His federal defense attorney described Womack as a complex individual, noting his troubled upbringing and lack of a paternal figure in his life. Despite his intelligence and occasional politeness, Womack’s criminal actions paint a different picture.
Womack’s case serves as a stark reminder of the destructive impact of gun violence and the cycle of criminal behavior that plagues communities. As the legal proceedings continue, the tragic loss of Ulysses Green remains a somber reminder of the consequences of senseless violence.
