In 2014, when Lupita Nyong’o received her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve McQueen’s masterpiece 12 Years a Slave, she said: “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”
A decade later, Nyong’o validated the dreams of many young black children by being selected to head the Berlinale jury responsible for selecting the winning films in the two main categories; Golden and Silver Bears.
