They say when it comes to talent, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. For a singular talent like Grammy winner Mariah Carey, that tree is sure to bear outstanding fruit.
In several recentTikTok videos, the iconic singer’s daughter, Monroe, 12, has shown that she seems to have inherited her mother’s sensational talent.
In a spine-tingling video, Monroe accompanies Boyz II Men on stage singing the 1995 hit single, “One Sweet Day,” as she begins to sing the audience erupts in appreciation of the pre-teens extraordinary voice as she confidently sings along with the Grammy Award-winning R&B legends.
One user commented, “Very beautiful I am so speechless.”
In another video, Monroe stands alongside mom and sings, “Jesus Born On This Day,” the footage appears to be from Mariah’s recent holiday tour.
In the video, the pair are dressed as holiday angels complete with sparkly gowns and Monroe echoes her mother as they sing along to the original holiday lyrics.
Fans praised the pre-teen in the viral video with one commenting, “Beautiful mother and daughter singing together special memories. Monroe has a beautiful voice.”
In yet another video from two years earlier, Monroe is seen getting vocal lessons and singing Whitney Houston’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You.,” while being cautioned not to overly rely on the singer’s use of vibrato.
But, one of the sweetest videos is when Mariah answers questions about whether or not Monroe has inherited her iconic “whistle register.” She notes that Monroe kind of has it, but that she has to “play with it.” However, when asked if she hopes her daughter and son, Moroccan would fall in her footsteps, she says, “I don’t know, but I hope so in some way. They’re both really talented across the board.” Mariah adds, that she enjoys spending time with the twins (whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon,” calling them “her friends.”
In another viral video, Mariah explains how her own mother discovered that she had “an ear” for music when she was able to correct her when she incorrectly sang the Italian opera that she was rehearsing.
Despite her extraordinary talent, in one video, Monroe praises her acting skills and her mother says, “No. No. Don’t do that. Humble, humble…humility.”
Most recently, Mariah was honored with the Recording Academy’s Global Impact Award. At the ceremony, presented on Feb. 2 by the Academy’s Black Music Collective, the 54-year-old singer offered up some of her signature shade, saying, “Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she added with a laugh, referencing the fact that it’s been nearly 20 years, since she last won a Grammy Award. “It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
Well, maybe Monroe will be taking home the prize very soon. So hang in there Mariah.
