An 82-year-old Englewood man accused of killing his wife and daughter with an ax pleaded not guilty to all charges in Arapahoe County District Court last week.
Reginald Maclaren pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of tampering with a body and one count of false reporting in a Jan. 23 hearing, according to court records.
Maclaren was arrested in March after he allegedly called 911 to report that his wife and daughter had been murdered and he knew the suspect, according to the Englewood Police Department.
Officers who responded to the home on the 900 block of Englewood Parkway found Maclaren inside the apartment and the bodies of his wife, 70-year-old Bethany, and daughter, 35-year-old Ruth Jennifer, with “substantial injuries.”
Maclaren is accused of killing both women with an ax and dismembering one of the bodies with a saw.
He allegedly told investigators he had recently lost his job, which involved working with homeless people, and was worried his wife and daughter would become homeless if he could not afford rent.
A jury trial in Maclaren’s case is set for June.
