Former “GMA3: What You Need to Know” co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have been everywhere in the news lately talking about how much their relationship has changed from being co-workers—and their very public affairs and divorces—to now lovers.
Yet now that they are officially an item, and a very public item at that, their level of media exposure is starting to feel strangely familiar … don’t you think?
Actually, Holmes and Robach are back working together on a podcast project for iHeart Radio called “Amy and T.J.” On the show they cover current events, what’s going on with pop culture—but mostly they talk their relationship. Some (us) might say too much.
Since the podcast’s debut, the couple have been dropping hints alluding to all not being OK in the Robach-Holmes house.
On their podcast, Robach has admitted that she misses her career since losing her job after their affair went public. “I really want to be able to do what I love, and I want to be able to do it with (Holmes) and that’s more the pressure I feel,” she said about balancing her career aspirations and relationship. But she “chose” Holmes.
Then came Tuesday’s Jan. 23 episode of “Amy & T.J.” titled “Things Ain’t Right.” And, well … things haven’t been right. But Holmes apparently suggested they talk it out on their podcast.
“You and I aren’t okay right now,” he said, and explained, “I said, ‘You know what? Let’s set up and do a podcast.’” What followed was a deep dive into the couples communication “kinks,” Holmes’ moodiness and “really bad days” and the how much pressure they are under to put on a united front.
The whole occasion had a very Will and Jada on Red Table talk feel to it, many listeners might have came away feeling that a Holmes-Robach breakup was eminent. But from the couple said otherwise.
In an Instagram post, the couple shared a video of them walking arm-in-arm and declared: “We just wanted to check in and let you know that, despite what you’ve been hearing, we are still together.”
Yay?
Then on Thursday, in an episode titled “I Can’t Fight This Feeling” the couple again went absolutely in on their relationship, the reactions to Tuesday’s podcast, and why they felt all of this was necessary.
“Our larger goal in putting out our latest episode was to show that, yes we like to show pictures of us smiling like everyone else and laughing on social media,” said Robach. “But if we want to be real and we want to transparent we wanted to show all the sides of us, and I would say most relationships.”
Holmes was apparently on the fence about how he would be perceived as a Black man. “It is going to I fear be viewed as a black man beating up on a white woman,” he said during the episode. But ultimately they agreed to release the podcast, and are better for it?
The whole conversation really was an Oscar-level performance of dysfunction, which makes us wonder how long will it be before Holmes slaps someone in Robach’s honor? Just wondering.
