Tiki, the Brave Blind Cat Rescued from Icy Pond in Massachusetts
Tiki, a 20-year-old blind black-and-white cat, loves to explore the outdoors. However, his latest adventure took a dangerous turn when he was spotted on ice floating in a pond in Massachusetts and eventually fell in.
Thanks to the quick thinking of a passerby and a pair of construction workers, Tiki was rescued from the icy waters.
Upon seeing Tiki in distress, Dawn Felicani immediately called for help. One of the construction workers got into a rowboat while the other assisted in navigating the icy pond. Using a shovel to break through the ice, they were able to reach Tiki and pull him to safety.
After being rescued, Tiki was brought indoors, dried off, and wrapped in blankets.
Animal control officer Kirsten Hirschler described Tiki as shivering, lethargic, and in shock. His low body temperature didn’t even register on the thermometer. He was promptly taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
It is believed that Tiki may have been chased onto the ice by a predator, leading to his predicament. Despite being blind for a year, Tiki typically navigates his surroundings with ease, according to his owner, John Arden.
Tiki is now safe and sound, acting as if nothing had happened. However, he is a bit frustrated that he can’t venture back outdoors, as expressed by Arden.
