Unsolved Mystery: $1,000 Reward Offered for Information on Rosa Chacon’s Death
It has been two years since the tragic discovery of 21-year-old Rosa Chacon’s body in a laundry cart behind the 2300 block of West 24th Place. She was found tied up and wrapped in sheets, but the cause of her death remains a mystery.
The Cook County Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that could help solve the case of what happened to Chacon. Despite an extensive investigation, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was unable to determine if her death was natural, accidental, or a result of foul play.
Chacon was last seen getting into an Uber in the 2800 block of South St. Louis on January 18, 2023. Her family members shared that someone had arranged the ride for her, but they do not know her destination. The Chicago Police Department issued a missing person bulletin on January 23, and Chacon’s body was found nearly two miles away from where she was last seen.
Her father expressed his grief, stating, “I miss my baby. Normally, when our daughter leaves, we hear from her. She calls the next day, she calls an hour after she leaves, she’s in a house, she’s secure, she’s nice and warm. But we didn’t hear anything.”
Speculation has arisen that Chacon’s death may be connected to other missing women in the area, but Chicago police have not confirmed any links. With the manner of Chacon’s death classified as “undetermined,” pursuing murder charges would be challenging.
Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information related to the “concealment of death,” valid for the next 60 days. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling 1-800-535-STOP or emailing TIPS@cookcountycrimestoppers.org. The Chicago police hotline number is 833-408-0069, and tipsters are not required to disclose their identities.
