In the early hours of Saturday morning, two individuals fell victim to a robbery while sitting in their car in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The incident took place in the 2000 block of West North Avenue, where two men approached the vehicle from behind at approximately 4:28 a.m. Both perpetrators brandished firearms, opened the car doors, and demanded that the victims exit the vehicle.
During the confrontation, the robbers successfully managed to steal a wallet from one victim and a phone from the other before making their escape in a white vehicle, suspected to be a Hyundai. Descriptions of the suspects were limited to identifying them as Black males wearing black ski masks.
Following the harrowing ordeal, the victims promptly drove to the Shakespeare (14th) District station located in Logan Square to report the incident. It is worth noting that despite the recent robbery, crime rates in the district have shown a significant decrease of 39% compared to the previous year. This positive trend is a welcome development for an area that has endured a prolonged period of armed robbery sprees over the past few years.
