Three Individuals Arrested for Robbery in Uptown
Three individuals, including two men and a teenage boy, have been charged with robbery after allegedly attacking a CTA passenger and stealing his electric scooter in Uptown. This incident took place on April 29, with one of the accused men having recently started probation for possessing a machine gun just two weeks prior.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, was traveling on the Red Line near Wilson when Reason Gill and Michael Harris, both 18, along with a 15-year-old boy, approached him and inquired about purchasing his electric scooter. When the victim declined to sell it, the group forcibly pushed him to the ground. Harris then punched the victim and took possession of the scooter.
Despite the victim’s refusal to sell, one of the perpetrators taunted him to retrieve the scooter if he desired it. Due to a language barrier, the victim mistakenly believed the group intended to return the scooter. However, they proceeded to assault him once more, with Gill even pursuing the victim with a barricade.
Following the incident, the victim made his way towards his home in Edgewater and encountered a passing Chicago police car. He alerted the officers about the robbery, leading to the prompt arrest of Gill, Harris, and the teenage boy. Law enforcement successfully recovered the stolen scooter and returned it to the victim.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Gill had been placed on juvenile probation for possession of a machine gun on April 15. In light of this information, Judge James Murphy ordered Gill to be detained pending trial on a charge of aggravated robbery.
Additionally, Harris, who also faces charges for spitting on a security guard and biting a nurse while undergoing evaluation at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, was similarly detained by Judge Murphy.
These arrests serve as a reminder of the importance of public safety and the consequences of engaging in criminal activities. The Chicago Police Department’s swift response and apprehension of the suspects demonstrate their commitment to protecting the community and ensuring justice is served.
