The Edge of Lowry apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado has been at the center of attention recently due to a violent home invasion and kidnapping involving suspected Tren de Aragua gang members. Sixteen undocumented Venezuelan immigrants believed to be members or associates of the gang are currently in federal custody on immigration holds.
While the suspects are detained by ICE, Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the incident that took place on Monday night. The victims, also undocumented immigrants, were targeted because of their immigration status. They were bound, pistol-whipped, threatened, and tortured for hours before managing to escape and seek help.
The apartment complex, consisting of 60 units, is set to close early next year following a legal settlement between Aurora city officials and the owners. The management of the complex has blamed the poor living conditions on the presence of the Tren de Aragua gang, which they claim has taken over the properties.
In response to the incident, Aurora police officers detained a total of 19 individuals for questioning. Investigators conducted search warrants throughout the complex and are working with federal agencies to identify and confirm the gang affiliations of the detained suspects.
The Edge of Lowry owners and property management company, CBZ Management, have not commented on the situation. However, city and police officials have pointed to poor management and lack of oversight as contributing factors to the criminal activity that has taken root in the complex.
As the investigation continues, there have been no arrests or charges filed in connection with the violent kidnapping. The victims are recovering from their ordeal, and authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and security of residents in the area.
