The 4th edition of the Creative Producer Indaba (CPI) has recently announced its 15 participants from Africa. The CPI is a prestigious industry program aimed at advancing the work of independent producers from Africa, as well as fostering collaboration and innovation in film production on the continent. Hosted by Cape Town-based Realness Institute in collaboration with EAVE, IFFR Pro, and Atlas Workshops, the program also includes a Brazilian producer interested in African projects.
Supported by organizations such as the Austrian Film Institute, Canada Media Fund, and Telefilm, the CPI brings together producers from Austria, Canada, Switzerland, and Francophone regions who share similar interests in African storytelling. The program features two workshops, with the first workshop including online sessions this month and in-person sessions at the Festival International du Film de Marrakech, Morocco, in December. The second workshop will be held at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in January/February 2025, with final online sessions in April 2025.
Designed by Elias Ribeiro, executive director of Realness Institute, the CPI program aims to unite professionals committed to creating compelling and globally relevant African stories. The participants will be guided by group leaders and creative producers Mehret Mandefro and Diana Elbaum, along with story consultant Tracey Lee Rainers.
Among the producers selected for the program are Layla Swart from South Africa, Salamina Mosese from South Africa, Vanessa Sinden from South Africa, Kamy Lara from Angola, and Moimi Wezam from the Democratic Republic of Congo. These producers are known for their successful projects and are seeking to collaborate with international partners to bring their visionary creations to life.
Additionally, the program includes international producers such as Dieynaba SY from La Réunion, Julia Alves de Oliveira from Brazil, Kathryn Fasegha from Canada, Maéva Ranaivojaona from Canada, and Niza Lou Waldburger from Switzerland. These producers are looking to invest and engage with African film projects, bringing a global perspective to the industry.
The CPI program provides a platform for producers to network, collaborate, and explore potential projects, with the goal of creating impactful and diverse African stories that resonate on a global scale. With a diverse group of participants from Africa and around the world, the 4th edition of the Creative Producer Indaba promises to be a groundbreaking venture in the world of film production.
