Enyimba Crashes Out of CAF Confederation Cup After Loss to Zamalek
Enyimba’s hopes of progressing in the CAF Confederation Cup were dashed after a 3-1 defeat to Zamalek at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday. The Nigerian side put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short against their Egyptian opponents.
The match started off in Zamalek’s favor, with Mustafa Shalaby scoring a crucial goal just one minute before halftime. The Egyptian side extended their lead early in the second half, with Seifeddine Jaziri finding the back of the net three minutes after the interval.
Enyimba fought back, with Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scoring a goal to help the visitors close the gap in the 57th minute. However, Zamalek proved to be too strong, as Jaziri scored his second goal of the match just three minutes before the final whistle.
With five points from six games, Enyimba finished third in Group D, missing out on a spot in the knockout stages of the competition. In the group’s other match, Al Masry secured a second-place finish by defeating the Black Bulls of Mozambique 3-1.
Despite the disappointment of an early exit from the tournament, Enyimba can take pride in their performances throughout the competition. The team showed resilience and determination, but ultimately fell short against tough opposition.
As they reflect on their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba will now turn their attention to domestic competitions and look to bounce back stronger in the future. With a talented squad and a dedicated fan base, the Nigerian side will be eager to build on their experiences in continental competition and strive for success in the seasons to come.
