The world mourns the loss of Sister Inah Canabarro, the oldest living person at 116 years old, who passed away at her home of natural causes. The Brazilian nun, known for her love of soccer and dedication to her religious congregation, left behind a legacy of spirituality and compassion that touched the hearts of many.

Sister Inah Canabarro, a beloved teacher and soccer superfan, was a die-hard supporter of Sport Club Internacional, a Brazilian professional soccer club based in Porto Alegre. She always celebrated her birthday with a cake in the shape of the team’s stadium and was often seen wearing the team’s scarf. Her love for the sport and her team was unwavering, and the club paid tribute to her after her passing, acknowledging her as a true fan who embodied the spirit of the people.

Despite her age, Sister Inah Canabarro maintained good health throughout the years. She only needed a walker at the age of 110 when she began experiencing mobility issues and even survived a hospitalization for COVID-19 in October 2022, becoming one of the oldest known survivors of the disease. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force in her life, and she credited it as the key to her longevity.

For her 110th birthday, Sister Inah Canabarro received a special honor from Pope Francis, recognizing her dedication to her faith and her community. Following the death of Japan’s Tomiko Itooka, Sister Inah Canabarro became the oldest living person in the world until her passing just shy of her 117th birthday on May 27. The title now passes to Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old British woman.

May her legacy continue to inspire others to live a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to what they hold dear.
