Chairman Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiko, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has made a decision to withdraw his motion seeking a review of his bail conditions. The motion was initially filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025, and was scheduled for a hearing on June 3. However, his legal team decided to withdraw the application on June 2, just before the hearing.
The reason behind the motion was to challenge the GH¢50 million bail set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Chairman Wontumi’s lawyers argued that the bail amount was excessive and seemed to be intentionally set to prevent his release. The application requested the court to reconsider the bail terms, providing detailed grounds in an accompanying affidavit.
The withdrawal of the application was handled by private legal practitioner Gary Nimako on behalf of Chairman Wontumi. Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi confirmed that all necessary documentation for the two required sureties has been completed. This progress made the court application unnecessary, with special thanks to former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, for their assistance.
