The Bulls are gearing up for a tough Challenge Cup quarterfinal clash against Edinburgh in Scotland this weekend, following their impressive 32-22 victory over Bayonne in the last 16 round. Director of Rugby, Jake White, is eyeing an extended European tour for his team after their successful performance in France.

The Bulls took a commanding 15-8 lead into halftime against Bayonne and managed to hold off a late comeback from the home side. Johan Goosen, who made a return to the team, sealed the win with a crucial 80th-minute penalty. The victory sets up a showdown with Edinburgh, who defeated the Lions in their knockout match.

White is now focused on securing a win against Edinburgh to advance to the Challenge Cup semifinals at the beginning of May. He acknowledged the need to possibly bring in reinforcements for the upcoming matches against Munster and Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship.

The Bulls initially planned for a four-week European tour, including their URC fixtures, but their progression in the Challenge Cup has extended their stay. White emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and building on their recent success in the upcoming matches.

Reflecting on the performance against Bayonne, White praised his team’s ability to handle the hostile crowd and deliver a strong performance on the field, despite missing some key players. He commended their resilience in defense and attacking prowess, highlighting the challenges of playing in the Basque region.

As the Bulls continue their European adventure, White is optimistic about their prospects in the Challenge Cup and URC competitions. With three crucial games left in the Challenge Cup, he is confident that the team will showcase their best rugby in the upcoming fixtures. The Bulls’ resilience and determination have kept them alive in the competition, setting the stage for an exciting end to their European tour.
