What has changed? Why now? - Bawumia responds to religious and tribal attacks against him

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has spoken out against what he described as “unfortunate” tribal and religious campaigns being waged against him by some of his opponents within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at the 33rd Anniversary celebration of NPP USA in New York, Dr. Bawumia expressed his dismay at the tactics being used against him, labeling them as the views of “the bigots” and not reflective of the true values of the NPP.

The former Vice President referenced a viral video of flagbearer aspirant Bryan Acheampong, who suggested that the NPP should change Bawumia as its presidential candidate due to the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict. Dr. Bawumia condemned this as “tribal bigotry” and called it “unfortunate.”

He also highlighted other instances of tribal and religious comments being directed towards him, including a claim by a former NPP minister and ambassador, as well as a campaign coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong, that delegates should not vote for him because his wife, Samira, is not a true Ghanaian.

Dr. Bawumia expressed his disbelief at the attacks, questioning why he and his wife were not subjected to such scrutiny when they were actively working for the party in the past.

Despite his disappointment, Dr. Bawumia remained optimistic and warned the “tribal and religious bigots” that their mission would fail, as it does not align with the true values of the NPP. He emphasized that the party has always been inclusive of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, and that such divisive tactics would not be tolerated.

In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia urged party members to reject tribal and religious discrimination, reaffirming the NPP’s commitment to unity and inclusivity. He emphasized that the party’s strength lies in its diversity and called for a united front against those seeking to sow division.
