The highly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is just around the corner, set to take place in Morocco. This prestigious tournament will bring together 12 teams from across the continent to compete for the coveted title and showcase the best of African women’s football.

Nigeria, with their eyes set on a record-extending tenth title, will be looking to make their mark once again. Meanwhile, South Africa will be aiming to defend their crown from three years ago, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition. Ghana’s Black Queens are also making a return to the tournament under the guidance of new coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who takes over from Nora Hauptle.

In Group C, Ghana will face tough competition from South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania. As the countdown to the tournament begins, let’s take a closer look at five standout players from the Black Queens team who are expected to make a significant impact in Morocco.

1. Doris Boaduwaa:
Fresh off a stellar debut season with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel, former Hasaacas Ladies forward Doris Boaduwaa will be a key player for Ghana. Boaduwaa’s impressive goal-scoring record and recent accolades, including winning the Women’s Footballer of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards, make her a player to watch. With three goals in four games during the qualification process, including a hat-trick against Malawi, Boaduwaa will be a crucial asset for the Black Queens.

2. Alice Kusi:
Winger Alice Kusi emerged as Ghana’s top goal-scorer during the qualification campaign, showcasing her attacking prowess and playmaking abilities. With a successful season in Saudi Arabia under her belt, Kusi will be looking to bring her dynamic skills to the national team. As one of the experienced players in the squad, Kusi’s contributions will be vital in Ghana’s quest for success in Group C.

3. Jennifer Cudjoe:
Midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe will be making her Africa Cup of Nations debut, bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the team. Despite being a seasoned player, Cudjoe acknowledges the challenge ahead but remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances. Her presence in the midfield will be crucial in guiding the Black Queens to a strong finish in the tournament.

4. Portia Boakye:
As the team captain, Portia Boakye will be leading by example on the field, showcasing her defensive prowess and leadership skills. Boakye’s consistent presence in the squad and her ability to command the defense make her a key player for Ghana. Her goal-scoring abilities were evident during the qualification stage, highlighting her all-around contribution to the team.

As the Black Queens gear up for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, these five players will be instrumental in Ghana’s quest for success in Morocco. With their talent, experience, and determination, they are poised to make a significant impact on the tournament and lead the team to glory. Stay tuned for all the action as the tournament kicks off on July 5th.
