The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has successfully received GH₵35 million from the Ministry of Education (MoE) to aid in the timely release of results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This development comes after concerns were raised by the Council regarding the potential delay in releasing results due to outstanding payments owed by the government, which could disrupt the academic calendar of tertiary institutions in the country.

The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, responded to these concerns by assuring the public that WAEC would indeed release the results on December 29, 2024. However, the Council later expressed uncertainty about meeting this deadline as the financial obligations had not been fully met. Additionally, there were conflicting reports about the government’s release of GH₵25 million for operational activities, leading to a public disagreement between the two institutions.

Fortunately, the issue has now been resolved, with WAEC confirming the receipt of GH₵35 million in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, on Friday, December 27, 2024. This funding will enable the Council to complete the scanning of objective answer cards and finalize the processing of results for the WASSCE for school candidates in 2024. WAEC is working diligently to ensure that the results are released by the end of the month.

In light of these developments, WAEC has appealed to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance promptly. This will allow the Council to compensate supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials, as well as meet other financial obligations. Despite the challenges faced, WAEC remains committed to delivering accurate and timely results for all stakeholders.

As the holiday season approaches, WAEC extends its best wishes to all stakeholders and emphasizes its dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities. The Council is focused on ensuring the smooth processing and release of results for the 2024 WASSCE, and looks forward to a successful conclusion to the academic year.
