Virgin Atlantic Introduces New Baggage Tracking Feature with Apple’s Find My Network
Travellers can now share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with Virgin Atlantic teams to locate baggage
Virgin Atlantic is delighted to announce the launch of a new Share Item Location feature that allows customers to share the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with the airline’s customer teams. This innovative solution aims to expedite the process of locating delayed bags and reuniting them with customers.
Corneel Koster, Chief Customer and Operating Officer at Virgin Atlantic, expressed his excitement about the new feature, stating, “We’re always looking for innovative solutions to ensure our customers enjoy the best possible experience with Virgin Atlantic”.
Koster further added, “We know many people already use AirTags or a Find My network accessory to keep updated on the location of their luggage. On the rare occasion when operational issues or misconnecting flights may require bags to be located, our teams now have this shared source of information, so our customers have peace of mind on our progress. Virgin Atlantic has amongst the best baggage performance in the industry and welcomes this innovation from Apple”.
To utilize the Share Item Location feature, customers worldwide can generate a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on their Apple devices. When reporting a missing bag, customers can share the link with the airport and baggage tracing teams, enabling them to view the live location of the bag and facilitate its swift return to the customer.
For customers’ privacy and security, the location sharing will automatically cease once the customer receives their bag, can be stopped by the customer at any time, and will expire after seven days.
The Share Item Location feature is powered by the Apple Find My network, a secure and anonymous crowdsourced network of over one billion Apple devices that use Bluetooth technology to detect missing items and report their approximate location back to the owner. The entire process is encrypted end-to-end, ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
To access the new feature, customers must ensure their Apple device is running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.
