Vipers SC was unable to take advantage of the opportunity to move to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table as they settled for a 1-1 draw against BUL at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.
The Venoms found themselves trailing early in the match when Pascal Ngobi scored for BUL in the fourth minute. However, Vipers fought back and were able to level the score through an Allan Okello penalty in the 28th minute. Okello’s goal was his eighth of the season and helped secure a point for his team.
Despite their efforts, Vipers were unable to secure all three points that would have seen them overtake current leaders NEC at the top of the table. The draw keeps Vipers in second place with 25 points, just one point behind NEC. BUL, on the other hand, remains in 10th place with 15 points after a slow start to the season.
The match at Kitende saw BUL take the lead early on with Ngobi’s goal, but Vipers responded well and were awarded a penalty after Gusto Mulungo was fouled in the box by Najib Fesali. Okello stepped up and converted the penalty to bring the scores level.
Overall, it was a hard-fought match between the two teams, with both sides creating chances but ultimately unable to find a winner. Vipers will be disappointed not to have taken all three points at home, but they will now turn their attention to their next fixture as they aim to climb to the top of the table.
The draw against BUL serves as a reminder that every point is valuable in the race for the league title, and Vipers will need to continue putting in strong performances if they are to achieve their goal of becoming champions. The team will be looking to bounce back in their next match and secure a crucial victory to keep their title hopes alive.
