US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Monday to discuss the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET). This meeting comes on the heels of Dr. Jaishankar’s recent visit to the US and marks the last high-profile visit to India by the outgoing Biden administration before the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the US on January 20.
During Sullivan’s visit, the two leaders are expected to review the progress made in deepening strategic ties between India and the US under Biden’s presidency. They will also discuss the implementation of the iCET, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two countries in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, biotech, and defense innovation.
Later in the day, Sullivan is scheduled to hold talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to further discuss the iCET and other key areas of cooperation between India and the US. The iCET, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Biden in May 2022, represents a landmark initiative to strengthen ties in critical technology sectors.
In addition to the iCET, the two countries have unveiled several transformative initiatives in areas such as semiconductors, critical minerals, advanced telecommunication, and defense space to deepen their cooperation. Sullivan’s visit to India in June 2024 laid the groundwork for further collaboration in these key areas.
Overall, the meeting between Sullivan and Jaishankar underscores the strong partnership between India and the US and their shared commitment to advancing critical and emerging technologies for the benefit of both countries. The discussions between the two leaders are expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in strategic areas that will shape the future of the India-US relationship.
