The recent antics of Eric Trump, son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, have once again sparked controversy and amusement online. In a post on Truth Social and X on Dec. 24, Eric Trump shared a doctored image of his father ordering Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal on Amazon. This playful jab follows his father’s previous comments about making Canada the “51st state” after winning the 2024 election.

Donald Trump first made the joke about Canada becoming a state while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was visiting Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 29. He suggested that if Canada couldn’t survive without a trade surplus from the U.S., it should consider joining as a state. Despite Finance Minister Dominic Leblanc clarifying that Trump’s comments were made in a joking manner, the banter between the two leaders continued.

In subsequent posts, Trump continued to playfully reference annexing Canada, with suggestions that many Canadians are in favor of the idea. However, Trudeau has not directly responded to these jokes, opting instead to subtly criticize Trump in public speeches.

On the international front, Trump also mentioned the idea of purchasing Greenland from Denmark, a notion he had previously floated during his first term as president. This time, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede quickly shut down any possibility of the nation being sold.

Additionally, Trump expressed discontent with the ownership of the Panama Canal, claiming that the U.S. was being “ripped off” by high rates for U.S. ships passing through. He even went as far as to demand that the canal be given back to the U.S. Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino firmly asserted that every square meter of the canal and its surroundings belonged to Panama.

As these playful yet controversial remarks continue to make headlines, it’s clear that the Trump family’s influence and humor are still very much present in political discourse. Whether these comments are taken seriously or dismissed as jokes, one thing is for sure – they certainly keep the public entertained and engaged.
