Trump just took his public feud with Musk to a new level: Going after his money

President Donald Trump has once again made headlines with his latest threat towards Elon Musk’s federal contracts. This move marks a significant escalation in the ongoing public feud between the president and the renowned tech entrepreneur, who was once considered an ally.

In a bold statement shared on his social media platform, Trump suggested that terminating Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts could potentially save billions of dollars in the national budget. He also expressed surprise that President Biden had not taken this action himself. This latest development comes in the wake of Musk’s departure from the White House last week, which has clearly strained their once-amicable relationship.

The rift between Trump and Musk became public when the Tesla CEO openly criticized the president’s domestic policy package earlier this week. Since then, Musk has continued to take jabs at the White House, prompting Trump to respond from the Oval Office. Despite their recent falling out, Trump’s criticism during their shared sendoff less than a week ago was less severe compared to his recent social media posts.

Musk, on the other hand, has not held back in his responses to Trump. In a post on his social media platform X, Musk claimed credit for Trump’s electoral success, insinuating that without his support, the outcome may have been different. This exchange of barbs highlights the deteriorating relationship between the two influential figures.

Elon Musk’s companies have long-standing ties to the federal government, particularly through his aerospace company SpaceX and his electric car company Tesla. SpaceX is a major contractor for NASA, while Tesla has benefitted from government subsidies for clean energy initiatives. Trump’s decision to revoke the EV Mandate, which Musk claims was already anticipated, has only added fuel to the fire.

The president’s use of executive power to target individuals or institutions he believes have wronged him is not new. From freezing federal grants to universities accused of antisemitism to securing deals with law firms under threat of losing business, Trump has a history of wielding his authority to enforce his agenda.

The clash between Trump and Musk underscores the complex dynamics at play within the realm of politics and business. As the feud continues to unfold, the implications for both parties and their respective enterprises remain uncertain. Only time will tell how this ongoing saga will ultimately impact their futures.
