Sunday Afternoon Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms and Hail Expected
The National Weather Service in Boulder has issued a warning for potential severe weather this Sunday afternoon, with thunderstorms and hail expected in the foothills and Eastern Plains.
According to the forecast, there is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. for the Denver Metro area. Before the storms roll in, temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s.
Winds from the west will increase in speed in the afternoon, with steady speeds ranging from 6 to 11 miles per hour and gusts up to 20 miles per hour.
Some of the afternoon storms could be severe, with the possibility of hail up to 2 inches in diameter and damaging winds. These severe storms are more likely to occur across the plains, the weather service stated.
As the evening progresses, the storms and wind are expected to continue, creating potentially hazardous conditions.
Looking ahead, scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted for Monday and Tuesday. However, the weather service also warns of a heat wave heading our way on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits.
