Police Recover Firearms and Kill Suspects in Shootout in KwaZulu-Natal
During the early hours of Friday morning, a dramatic shootout took place in Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), resulting in the deaths of at least three suspects. The incident unfolded as police acted on intelligence regarding a cache of unlicensed firearms at a property in the Mbabane area.
According to Police spokesperson Major-General Francis Lambert, the suspects opened fire on the officers when they approached the homestead. In the exchange of gunfire that followed, three suspects were fatally wounded. The police were able to recover two AK-47 rifles and a revolver from the scene.
Connection to Traditional Healer
It has been reported that the suspects were allegedly protecting the house of a traditional healer in the area. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation into this incident continues.
This shootout comes on the heels of another incident last week, where police shot and killed five suspected robbers in KZN. The robbers were reportedly planning a business robbery in KwaMashu when they were confronted by law enforcement officers. In the ensuing altercation, the suspects turned their weapons on the police, resulting in a fatal exchange of gunfire.
Four suspects were shot and fatally wounded at the scene, while a fifth suspect attempted to flee but succumbed to gunshot wounds. The suspects were found to be in possession of three firearms. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident.
These recent incidents highlight the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
