Black Stars Coach Otto Addo Frustrated After Draw Against Chad
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his frustration following Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chad in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The match, held at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena, saw Jordan Ayew give Ghana the lead in the 17th minute, only for Celestine Ecua to equalize in the 88th minute.
Speaking after the game, Addo was disappointed with his team’s performance, especially their inability to capitalize on their dominance. He said, “I can’t say we played excellently or we played well because it was a draw. The result is everything… we had a lot of corners, we did nothing out of that.”
Addo emphasized the need for his team to be more clinical in front of goal, stating, “We had a lot of shots, attempts on goal, we had a lot of ball possession, and normally we have to win this game. This, in the end, surely, is not good enough, and we have to improve, especially on our execution.”
Ghana Maintains Group I Lead
Despite the draw, Ghana still leads Group I with 16 points from seven games, keeping their World Cup qualification hopes alive. The upcoming match against Mali is now crucial, as a win would strengthen their position in the group.
The Black Stars will be training at the Accra Sports Stadium in preparation for the match against Mali, scheduled for Monday at 7 PM local time.
Victory against Mali would not only boost confidence but also bring Ghana closer to securing a spot in the World Cup.
