Asamoah Gyan, the record-breaking goal scorer for the Ghanaian national team, recently took to Instagram to express his frustrations and set the record straight on some controversial moments from his playing career. One of the main topics he addressed was the infamous penalty miss against Uruguay in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

During the live Instagram session, Gyan passionately defended himself against the suggestion that he intentionally missed the crucial penalty kick. He vehemently questioned why anyone would think he would sabotage such a historic opportunity for Ghana. The narrative that he should have let another teammate take the penalty also did not sit well with him.

Gyan specifically called out his former teammates, criticizing them for not stepping up to take the penalty themselves. He referred to them as cowards, highlighting their lack of courage in a crucial moment for the team. The striker did not hold back in expressing his disappointment in the lack of support and the subsequent abuse he faced for missing the penalty.

In addition to addressing the penalty controversy, Gyan also discussed his relationship with fellow teammate Andre Ayew. He acknowledged Ayew’s genuine love for him but suggested that external influences had caused a rift between them. Gyan hinted that Ayew had been influenced by individuals with personal agendas, leading to a strained relationship between the two players.

Despite the challenges and criticisms he has faced throughout his career, Gyan remains one of Ghana’s most iconic footballers. His goal-scoring prowess and dedication to the national team have solidified his legacy in Ghanaian football history. As he continues to navigate the complexities of professional football, Gyan’s determination and passion for the game remain unwavering.
