The Last of Us season 3: What to Expect

HBO’s hit show, The Last of Us, has just concluded its second season with a jaw-dropping finale. The latest installment delved deep into the theme of revenge, showcasing our protagonists facing not just the infected, but also dangerous cults and military groups.

The season finale, which aired on May 25th, left viewers on the edge of their seats, setting the stage for an epic third season. HBO wasted no time in giving the green light for The Last of Us season 3, but fans may have to wait a while for its return.

According to Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in the series, filming for season 3 is expected to commence in 2026. If production follows a similar timeline to season 2, we can anticipate that The Last of Us season 3 won’t premiere until 2027. The show is likely to be available on HBO Max in the US and on Sky Atlantic and Now in the UK.

Plot Details for The Last of Us season 3

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 2

The conclusion of season 2 hinted at a shift in perspective, with the focus turning towards Abby’s storyline in Seattle. As Ellie continues her pursuit of Abby, seeking revenge for Joel’s murder, she encounters various challenges along the way. From facing off against the W.L.F. militia to confronting a mysterious cult, Ellie’s journey is fraught with danger and heartache.

Meanwhile, Abby’s role in the conflict becomes more apparent, as she navigates the complexities of the war between the W.L.F. and the Seraphites. Season 3 promises to delve deeper into Abby’s motivations and actions, shedding light on her perspective as events unfold in Seattle. The repercussions of Ellie’s relentless pursuit and the aftermath of the final showdown will be explored in detail.
