Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, was recently honored at the inaugural Billboard Global Power Players event in East London. The event took place at Shoreditch House and saw Tems receiving the prestigious Diamond Award, alongside iconic British musician Sir Elton John and EMPIRE founder and CEO, Ghazi Shami.

During the event, Tems expressed her gratitude for the recognition and reflected on the increasing influence of African music on the global stage. She highlighted Billboard’s support for African music and culture, acknowledging the platform’s role in driving the momentum of the continent’s music industry to new heights.

In addition to Tems, Sir Elton John was presented with the Creators’ Champion Award, while Ghazi Shami received the esteemed Clive Davis Visionary Award. The award ceremony was attended by notable figures in the music industry, with Nigerian music star Olamide presenting the award to Shami.

The event also marked the launch of Billboard’s first-ever UK Power Players chart, celebrating key figures shaping the British music industry. This initiative aims to recognize and honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the music scene in the UK.

Tems’ achievements continue to make history, as she remains the most-awarded African artist in Billboard’s history. In 2024, she made headlines by becoming the first Nigerian woman to be honored at Billboard’s Women in Music event, further solidifying her status as a trailblazer in the industry.

As Tems’ star continues to rise, her impact on the global music scene is undeniable. Her talent, passion, and dedication to her craft have earned her a well-deserved place among the industry’s most influential and respected artists. With each accolade and recognition, Tems continues to inspire fans and aspiring musicians around the world, solidifying her position as a true powerhouse in the music industry.
