Sundowns steam past Sekhukhune in a six-goal thriller

Mamelodi Sundowns Continues Dominance with 4-2 Win over Sekhukhune United

Mamelodi Sundowns showcased their attacking prowess with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership clash held at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The defending champions extended their lead at the top of the table to 15 points over second-placed Orlando Pirates, accumulating an impressive 51 points in the process.

The match saw goals from Thapelo Morena, Lucas Suarez, Lucas Ribeiro, and Arthur Sales for Sundowns, while Katlego Otladisa and Keletso Makgalwa found the back of the net for the home team in a six-goal spectacle in Polokwane.

Sundowns wasted no time in asserting their dominance as Morena opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a clinical finish after a well-worked build-up play. The wingback capitalized on a pinpoint cross from Jayden Adams to put his team in the lead.

However, Sekhukhune United responded swiftly, with Otladisa capitalizing on a goalkeeping error from Jody February to level the score. Suarez restored Sundowns’ lead before halftime with a header from a corner kick, taking advantage of Sangare’s misjudgment in goal.

Ribeiro further extended Sundowns’ advantage early in the second half with a simple tap-in after a missed opportunity from Rayners. Sales then came off the bench to unleash a powerful strike from outside the box, leaving Sangare helpless in goal.

Makgalwa managed to pull one back for Sekhukhune United, capitalizing on a defensive mistake from Sundowns, but it was not enough to threaten the reigning champions’ victory. Sundowns showcased their class and depth, securing a convincing win on the road.

The match highlighted both teams’ attacking intent and showcased the quality of football in the South African top-flight league. Sundowns’ relentless pursuit of goals and solid defensive display ensured they maintained their position at the summit of the league standings.
