Former Borussia Dortmund winger Delron Buckley is optimistic about Mamelodi Sundowns’ chances of causing an upset when they face the German giants in the FIFA Club World Cup. Despite Dortmund being held to a goalless draw by Fluminense in their tournament opener, Buckley believes that Sundowns have the potential to secure a positive result in the crucial Group F clash at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Sundowns currently lead Group F with three points after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ulsan HD. Buckley, who had a four-season stint with Dortmund from 2005 to 2009, has faith in the South African champions to rise to the occasion and continue their strong start in the tournament.

In a recent interview on Radio 2000, Buckley expressed his observations from Dortmund’s match against Fluminense, noting that the German side did not perform up to their usual standards. He emphasized that the weather conditions in Cincinnati played a role in Dortmund’s struggles, as they are accustomed to colder climates in Germany. In contrast, Sundowns are familiar with playing in similar weather conditions, giving them a potential advantage in the upcoming match.

Buckley highlighted Sundowns’ tactical discipline and quality within the squad, suggesting that they could compete in top European leagues based on their performance in recent years. He commended the attractive style of football played by Sundowns, stating that they could hold their own in leagues like the Bundesliga or La Liga.

The former Bafana Bafana international emphasized the importance of financial backing in building a successful team, pointing out that clubs with the resources to scout and recruit top talent are more likely to achieve success. Despite the differences in financial capabilities between European clubs and those in South Africa, Buckley believes that Sundowns’ style of play and competitive edge make them a force to be reckoned with.

Overall, Buckley’s insights shed light on the potential for an exciting clash between Sundowns and Dortmund, with the South African side aiming to continue their impressive run in the FIFA Club World Cup. As they prepare to face off against the German giants, Sundowns will be looking to capitalize on their strengths and secure a result that could propel them further in the tournament.
