Lebo Mothiba has expressed his joy at returning home after being officially unveiled as Mamelodi Sundowns’ newest signing. The 29-year-old Bafana striker, who has been training with the club to recover from a serious knee injury, expressed his gratitude in a video released by the club.

“My name is Lebo Mothiba and I am proud to be yellow,” said Mothiba, highlighting his pride in joining the Sundowns family. The club confirmed the signing on Monday, with Mothiba signing a short-term deal with the team.

Mothiba’s journey has come full circle, as he was part of the Sundowns youth team before moving to French side Lille in 2013 at the age of 19. Despite showing glimpses of brilliance in France, his career has been marred by injuries, with a knee ligament rupture in December 2023 sidelining him for an extended period.

Released by Strasbourg when his contract expired in May 2024, Mothiba now looks to make an impact with Sundowns as they aim for an eighth Betway Premiership title, as well as success in the Caf Champions League and the Nedbank Cup. Fans will be hoping that Mothiba’s return to full fitness will provide a boost to the team’s attacking prowess.

The announcement of Mothiba’s signing was met with excitement from Sundowns fans, who are eager to see the South African forward in action. With his experience and talent, Mothiba has the potential to make a significant contribution to the club’s quest for silverware in the upcoming season.
