The humanitarian community in Sudan is facing dire challenges in North Darfur State, as forced displacement of civilians continues to disrupt existing infrastructure and humanitarian services. The mass displacement from camps like Zamzam and Abu Shouk has pushed an estimated 400,000-450,000 people towards Tawila and surrounding areas, increasing vulnerability and exacerbating food insecurity.
Operational challenges are hindering the humanitarian response, with restricted access to areas like Al Fasher impeding the delivery of life-saving aid. Urgent and sustained access is needed to ensure support can reach those in need. With the humanitarian system stretched thin, flexible funding is crucial to mobilize supplies and sustain emergency response efforts.
Violations, including attacks on IDPs and humanitarian workers, are unacceptable. Civilians must be protected, and access to aid should not be contingent on forced displacement. A call to action is made to all parties to the conflict to respect International Humanitarian Law and allow unimpeded access to those in need.
Donors are urged to provide immediate support to maintain the humanitarian response in North Darfur. Exceptional funding is needed to continue mobilizing resources and capacity for this emergency situation. The humanitarian community is dedicated to responding to this crisis with urgency, but support is essential to ensure effective assistance reaches those affected.
