A tragic incident involving a military armoured vehicle has resulted in the loss of one soldier’s life and left four others severely injured in Saka, a suburb of the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region. The heartbreaking event took place on Tuesday, February 23, 2025, as the soldiers were on their way from Bawku to Bolgatanga.

Reports indicate that the accident was caused by a burst tire, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The armoured car, bearing registration number 21GA39, reportedly flipped multiple times after the left rear tire malfunctioned while in motion. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the vehicle was on an official escort mission to Bawku at the time of the tragic incident.

The sudden tire failure caused the driver to struggle with steering, resulting in the vehicle overturning. Local residents swiftly came together to assist emergency responders and police personnel in rescuing the injured soldiers and retrieving the body of the deceased officer. The injured individuals were promptly taken to the Zebilla District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment.

As of now, the identity of the deceased soldier has not been disclosed pending notification of his family. The Ghana Armed Forces are yet to release an official statement regarding the accident, but investigations are already in progress to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the risks that military personnel face while carrying out their duties. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected soldiers and their families during this difficult time.
