The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has issued a statement in response to the announcement made by the Constitutional Council of Mozambique regarding the outcome of the general elections held on 9 October. The Secretary-General is closely monitoring the situation and is concerned about the violence that has erupted post-election, resulting in loss of lives and damage to public and private property.

In light of these events, the Secretary-General is calling on all political leaders and relevant stakeholders in Mozambique to prioritize dialogue and seek peaceful resolutions to the crisis. He emphasizes the importance of refraining from violence and encourages all parties to engage in meaningful discussions and legal processes to address the current challenges faced by the country.

It is crucial for Mozambicans to come together in a constructive manner to find solutions that will benefit the collective future of the nation. The Secretary-General urges all parties to work towards defusing tensions and resolving conflicts peacefully.

This statement, distributed by APO Group on behalf of UN News, underscores the importance of peaceful dialogue and collaboration in addressing the post-election crisis in Mozambique. It serves as a reminder of the need for all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being and future prosperity of the Mozambican people.
