Scott Brown launches campaign for Senate in New Hampshire

Former Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown has officially announced his candidacy for Senate in New Hampshire for the second time. In a statement posted on social media, Brown, a Republican, highlighted his priorities of restoring common sense, securing the border, and fighting for New Hampshire values. The news was first reported by WMUR, making Brown the highest profile Republican to enter the race to replace Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who decided not to seek reelection in 2026.

Brown, who served as Ambassador to New Zealand during President Donald Trump’s first term, praised the former president in his launch video, commending Trump for his efforts to “right the ship” by sealing the border, standing up to China, and restoring America’s standing in the world. His decision to enter the race comes after former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu declined to run, despite encouragement from Trump.

In response to Brown’s announcement, Democratic Representative Chris Pappas launched his own campaign, with his team quick to criticize Brown for allegedly doing Wall Street’s bidding and blindly supporting Trump. Brown, on the other hand, took a swipe at Pappas in his launch video, stating, “Chris Pappas wants a better title. I want a better America.”

The rivalry between Brown and Pappas has been brewing for months, with Brown accusing Pappas of supporting open borders, transgender athletes in women’s sports, and allegedly lying about President Joe Biden’s mental state. Democrats have sought to tie Brown to Trump, emphasizing their differences on key issues like abortion rights.

Brown has been laying the groundwork for his Senate bid, attending GOP senators’ weekly lunches and maintaining connections with the Republican Senate campaign arm. His decision to run sets the stage for a competitive race in New Hampshire, with both candidates vying to represent the state in the Senate.
