Samsung has just unveiled their latest mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A56, and it’s already causing a stir in the tech world. Priced at £100 less than the base model of Apple’s latest iPhone 16e, the A56 offers double the internal storage at 256GB and a host of impressive features that make it a strong contender in the mid-range market.

One of the standout features of the Galaxy A56 is its AI capabilities. While Apple’s latest iPhone boasts Apple Intelligence, Samsung’s ‘Awesome AI’ on the A56 is equally impressive. This new AI system, part of the One UI 7.0 user experience, includes exclusive features like Now Brief and AI Select, as well as the latest Google Circle-to-Search experience and Google Gemini preloaded on the device.

In terms of software support, Samsung is making a bold promise with the A56 by offering six years of OS and security updates. This puts it on par with Apple’s track record of supporting their devices for up to seven years, ensuring that the A56 will remain up to date and secure for years to come.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A56 is powered by a new 4nm Exynos 1580 chipset, which promises improved performance compared to its predecessor. With a 12% increase in NPU performance for AI tasks, a 16% boost in GPU performance for gaming, and an 18% improvement in CPU performance, the A56 is set to deliver a smooth and responsive user experience.

Design-wise, the A56 features a sleek and slim profile, with a brushed metal frame that houses a larger vapor chamber for improved heat dissipation. This should ensure sustained performance, even during heavy usage scenarios.

The camera setup on the A56 is also impressive, with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro sensor. The phone also includes AI-enhanced features like semantic separation and Best Take, making it easier to capture high-quality photos and videos.

One area where the A56 truly shines is its display. With a vibrant OLED panel that supports a ProMotion-like 120Hz refresh rate, the A56 offers a superior viewing experience compared to the iPhone 16e’s 60Hz display. The A56’s display also boasts a higher peak brightness of 1200nits for HDR content, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Overall, Samsung has hit the mark with the Galaxy A56, offering a compelling alternative to Apple’s latest iPhone. With its impressive features, competitive pricing, and strong software support, the A56 is sure to attract attention from consumers looking for a high-performance mid-range smartphone. The Galaxy A56 is set to go on sale on March 19 for £499, and pre-orders are now available from Samsung.
