The disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from the Tema Port has sparked outrage and calls for urgent action from various stakeholders. Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his dismay over the ongoing investigation into the missing containers, describing the situation as “mind-boggling” and “completely unacceptable.”
During a discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, Gyamfi commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his transparent and proactive stance in handling the matter. He praised the Minister for overseeing the investigations conducted by a committee and escalating the issue to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for further scrutiny.
Gyamfi emphasized that delays or excuses would not be tolerated by the NDC and the public. He demanded clear timelines from the NIB and insisted that the law must be allowed to take its course. Gyamfi stressed the importance of holding accountable those responsible for the discrepancies, particularly those who had breached public procurement laws in the awarding of contracts related to the missing containers.
“We need to know who is responsible for this serious lapse. It’s time to let the law of this country work, and we will continue to push for transparency and accountability at every level,” Gyamfi stated.
The investigation into the missing containers has raised concerns about the integrity of the procurement process and the need for greater oversight and accountability in the handling of public resources. The NDC and the public are demanding answers and swift action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
As the investigation continues, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to uncover the truth behind the missing containers and ensure that such lapses in oversight do not occur in the future. Transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law are crucial in upholding the public trust and ensuring the efficient management of public resources.
