In a recent development, Communications Minister Sam George has taken a bold step by authorizing the dismissal of nearly 100 staff members of the Ghana Post Limited. The reason cited for this drastic action is an irregular recruitment process that took place after the December 7, 2024, election.

According to Minister Sam George, the affected employees were hired during a period when proper procedures were not followed. He expressed his commitment to upholding the ministry’s integrity by removing individuals whose recruitment did not adhere to established protocols. As the head of the ministry, he emphasized that he could not work with staff members whose employment was tainted by irregularities.

During a press briefing, Minister Sam George highlighted the importance of rationalizing the ministry’s workforce. He stated, “If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalization is ongoing.” He further announced the termination of nearly 100 staff members at Ghana Post who were hired post-election.

The irregular recruitment process not only compromised the integrity of the ministry but also led to inefficiencies within the department. Minister Sam George stressed the need to clean up the ministry, making it leaner and more efficient in carrying out its functions.

It is important to note that the government has been taking steps to address post-election employment in the public sector that did not follow proper procedures. This move is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and accountability in various sectors of the economy.
