Safeway workers in various cities across Colorado are continuing their labor strikes against Safeway and Albertsons, citing unfair labor practices. The strike in Grand Junction led to a temporary closure of the store on F Rd., with approximately 30 workers participating in picketing.

In addition to Grand Junction, Safeway and Albertsons employees in Fort Collins, Greeley, Longmont, Loveland, and Colorado Springs have voted over 95% to authorize a strike. The timeline for when workers in these areas will walk out has yet to be announced.

Negotiations were scheduled to resume on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the union urging workers to hold the line and continue picketing. The union emphasized the importance of addressing key demands for better staffing levels, livable wages, and the protection of workers’ health and pension benefits.

Safeway’s Denver Division expressed disappointment in the strike, stating that they are negotiating in good faith to achieve a balanced agreement that benefits both associates and customers. The company refuted allegations of unfair labor practices and emphasized their commitment to providing exceptional service to customers.

The union, UFCW Local 7, rejected the latest offer from Safeway and Albertsons, stating that it did not adequately address their demands. The union has not yet announced their next steps in response to the strike.
