Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Named URC Player of the Season
Despite facing injury setbacks that caused him to miss half of the season, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, the versatile back for the Stormers, has been recognized as South Africa’s United Rugby Championship (URC) Player of the Season. His exceptional playmaking skills and goal-kicking abilities have not only earned him personal accolades but have also been instrumental in helping the Stormers secure victories throughout the URC.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu, at just 23 years old, joins the ranks of esteemed players like Cameron Hanekom, Deon Fourie, and Ruben van Heerden who have been honored for their outstanding performances in the URC regular season. In a tight competition for the award, he outshone competitors like Hanekom and Wilco Louw from the Bulls with his impressive tally of 98 points in 10 matches, which included a combination of tries, drop-goals, penalties, and conversions.
Mark Alexander, the President of SA Rugby, praised Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s talent, stating, “Sacha is undoubtedly one of the finest young talents in the country. His consistent delivery of quality performances showcases the exceptional player that he is. He made a significant impact on his team’s success, contributing to their attacking prowess and scoring in various ways.”
More Honors for South African Players in the URC
Aside from Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s accolade, other South African players also received recognition for their outstanding contributions in the URC. Hanekom was named the URC’s Next-Gen Player of the Season for his impressive displays in carrying the ball, making tackles, and winning turnovers for the Bulls. Deon Fourie’s exceptional try for the Stormers against Scarlets was deemed the Try of the Season, showcasing his skill and determination on the field.
Ruben van Heerden, a lock for the Stormers, was awarded the Tackle Machine Award for his exceptional defensive prowess, making an impressive 171 tackles with a success rate of 98%. Additionally, the Sharks were honored with the Innovation Award for SharksFest, a digital initiative aimed at enhancing fan engagement and matchday experiences.

The URC’s Elite XV features a mix of locally-based South African players and those playing overseas, including Marnus van der Merwe and RG Snyman. The team comprises standout performers from the tournament, highlighting the talent and skill on display in the URC.
